Ono Deli Café Bar is a restaurant bar built on two floors as an imaginary reconstruction of a double-height space in the historical center of Basel.
The project was done in close collaboration with both the department of historical monuments and the restaurant owner, to create the ambiguous and multilayered scenery of a space that seems to have always been there and which reveals old and new only upon deeper contemplation.
The adopted design strategy spotlights the guest and minimizes the visibility of the underlying design effort. To link the interior to the street, all windows on the ground floor are sunk into the ground.
