BELGRADE URBAN LABORATORY
As part of the celebrations marking 110 years of diplomatic relations between Switzerland and Serbia, the Belgrade Urban Laboratory will take place on May 15 – 16, 2026, at the Cultural Centre of Belgrade and the Genex Tower. Initiated by the Association of Architects of Belgrade together with BINA – Belgrade International Architecture Festival, the Kanton Basel-Stadt, and the Embassy of Switzerland, the event will bring together architects, researchers, institutions, and the public from Serbia, Switzerland, and beyond. Through lectures, discussions, and guided exchanges, the Urban Laboratory will address current urban challenges, including climate resilience, participatory approaches to city-making, the changing role of architects in society, and the future of modernist heritage. The two-day program aims to foster dialogue between local and international perspectives while encouraging new forms of collaboration across disciplines and borders. Contributors include representatives from the City of Belgrade, the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Belgrade, ETH Zürich, and the Bau- und Verkehrsdepartement des Kantons Basel-Stadt. HHF founding partners Simon Hartmann and Simon Frommenwiler will serve as speakers in two panel discussions on May 15 (Panel 2, 5:00 – 6:45 pm) and May 16 (Panel 4, 5:00 – 6:45 pm). HHF AT CITIES CONNECTION PROJECT: 15 YEARS OF COMPARATIVE ARCHITECTURE EXHIBITION IN BARCELONA
As part of the Barcelona 2026 World Capital of Architecture, the exhibition brings together projects from 15 years of Cities Connection Project. With the participation of more than 400 local and international architecture practices, including our LANDSKRONHOF project contribution, it offers a cross-cutting view of urban development through public architecture from the perspective of social responsibility. UETIKON LIBRARY OPENING
As the apartments took shape on the second floor and medical practises will follow up on the first floor, the library of Uetikon am See on the ground floor and in the basement made their public appearance on Saturday, April 11, 2026. Organised within a little festive event, the new place to meet and come together for all sorts of social activities opened its doors to the people of the community on Lake Zurich. Our new building, working as a gateway and hub for the northern part of central Uetikon along the main Bergstrasse village connection from the lake uphill, is soon to be finally finished when all landscape architecture is placed around the mixed-use construction of visible timber. Using the advanced TS3 system, the flexible spatial configuration underlines a contemporary yet modern, future-oriented, open use of the floors. In preventing too much excavation, a more eco-friendly way of basement construction was enabled. Furthermore, the reconfiguration of an underground garage to a larger area for the library, which is now spread on two levels, including appropriate zones for reading, studying, meeting, playing, and just spending time among books and further archived knowledge, led to a more sustainable use of the site.

UETIKON MIXED-USE BUILDING: APARTMENT SNEAK PEEK
Take a look at one of the apartments on the second floor of our mixed-use building in Uetikon am See (Zurich agglomeration). The building offers different uses on each level. Additionally to the second floor containing housing, a public library on the ground floor, and medical practices on the first floor complete the program. The visible timber structure employs the advanced TS3 system. Comparable in performance to reinforced concrete slabs, it integrates laminated timber panels into a beam-free structural framework. It relies on slim, point-supported elements made from conventional cross-laminated timber, creating an efficient and refined load-bearing solution.

HAGENBÜNDTEN IS GROWING – EVERY SECOND WEEK A STOREY
See our HAGENBÜNDTEN housing growing above ground. Besides a thorough re-use transformation of a former Baloise training centre into one part of the new apartment project in Arlesheim, Basel agglomeration, two new buildings complete the situation. Green ceramic façades give both the existing and new volumes a cohesive appearance and integrate the architectural configuration harmoniously into the natural, wooded surroundings. CAB 6 – “INHABIT, OUTHABIT” EXHIBITION THROWBACK
As the 6th edition of the Chicago Architectural Biennial – SHIFT: Architecture in Times of Radical Change came to an end at the end of February, we would like to highlight our contribution to one of the included exhibitions “Inhabit, Outhabit”, where we presented our LANDSKRONHOF project (beautifully photo-/videocaptured originally by OMAMBO / Kelvin Silva) as part of a display that brought together 29 collective housing projects from around the world, most realized within the past decade. From refugee camps to high-end developments, they question conventional housing models and explore new ways of living together—rethinking ownership, family structures, shared spaces, sustainability, and material innovation. At a time of a global housing crisis, these projects act as “letters from the field”: concrete examples that challenge entrenched inequalities and point beyond profit-driven models toward more collective, inclusive, and sustainable forms of living. UETIKON LIBRARY SOON TO BE FINISHED
With the scaffolding coming off and the interior soon to be finished, the construction of our building in the very center of Uetikon (Zurich agglomeration) comes to an end and opens up a new life to its program, with a public library on the ground floor, medical practices on the first floor, and apartments above on the second floor. The exposed timberwork, executed by W. Rüegg AG with HTB Ingenieure AG, is realized using the high-performance TS3 system from Timber Structures 3.0 AG. Acting like reinforced concrete slabs, it connects laminated plywood panels to a beamless timber frame, using slender, point-supported panels made of standard cross-laminated timber. DENSIFICATION WITH FORESIGHT: 2025/26 NZZ REAL ESTATE YEARBOOK EDITION FEATURES HAGENBÜNDTEN RE-USE HOUSING PROJECT
Our re-use housing development in Arlesheim, Basel agglomeration, is featured in the 2025/26 NZZ Real Estate Yearbook, first published at NZZ Real Estate Days in November 2025. The project, which we are developing in close partnership with Halter AG and Baloise Leben AG, is currently under construction and will be finished in the spring of 2027. As Jean-Pierre Valenghi, Head of Real Estate at Baloise Asset Management, quotes it within the article – “Economic efficiency and sustainability are not opposing goals – they are the very foundation of future-proof architecture.” – we are very much looking forward to seeing our architecture come to life and to give home to future tenants in 64 apartments of one transformed as well as re-used commercial building and two new housing additions. HAGENBÜNDTEN – IN CONSTRUCTION
Facing land scarcity and the urgent demand for affordable housing, the HAGENBÜNDTEN project in Arlesheim demonstrates the potential of intelligent reuse. Instead of demolition, the former Baloise training centre is carefully transformed: 18 apartments are integrated within the existing structure. Simultaneously, two compact new buildings complete the ensemble, resulting in a total of 64 housing units. Green ceramic façades unify old and new volumes, embedding the development within its surroundings. By retaining the load-bearing structure, grey energy is conserved. At the same time, ecological materials, component reuse, and efficient building services ensure high sustainability at moderate cost, combining preservation and new construction into a cohesive, permeable whole. The project has now entered the construction and transformation phase, marking a significant step towards resource-efficient, barrier-free housing and a forward-looking approach to circular construction in the Basel agglomeration.

START OF CONSTRUCTION AT BAHNHOFQUARTIER WETTINGEN: GROUND WORK AND DISMANTELING
The start of deconstructing the existing industrial buildings on the site next to Wettingen railway station marks the beginning of construction work for the new residential and commercial development, which will continue through 2029. Our building ensemble, located on the plots owned by Post Immobilien AG and AZ Invest AG, is scheduled for implementation from 2027 onwards. In the section of the property owned by the Avadis Anlagestiftung, initial demolition and deconstruction work is now underway, along with preparatory measures for excavating the construction pit and subsequent shell construction. ONGOING INTERIOR FINISHING AND GROUNDBREAKING WOODWORK STRUCTURE TECHNOLOGY AT UETIKON BUILDING
Our building (featuring a library, medical practices, and apartments) in Uetikon am See is taking shape as the interior finishing work is now in full progress. Visible from the inside, the overall structure comprises a concrete substructure for the basement and staircase, along with a stiffening core that supports the visible woodwork assembly forming the ground floor and upper levels. A newly developed high-performance timber construction system (TS3) functions similarly to reinforced concrete ceilings. This technology enables a strong connection between laminated plywood panels and a beamless timber frame structure, utilizing slim, point-supported panels made of conventional cross-laminated wood. BABY DRAGON PROJECT BY HHF IS PART OF THE NEW BOOK “THINKING WITH MODELS – INTEGRATION OF MATERIAL AND DESIGN”
Our project, BABY DRAGON, is part of Shokokusha publisher's (Tokyo, JP) new book, “Thinking with Models – Integration of Material and Design”. Thoughtfully put together by author Yujin Hirase (yHa architects, Fukuoka, JP) and Nakano Design Office (art direction and design; Tokyo, JP), the compilation shows a variety of different ways to use modelling and the characteristics of materials in expressing architectural design and the overall yet fundamental idea of each project. Whether it's wood, paper, textile, metal, plaster, mortar, clay / oil clay, insulating firebrick, acrylic / resin, or polystyrene foam, each material comes with a certain expression to underline the configured appearance of and within the model in correspondence to its architectural project counterpart's design and guiding principle.

We’re proud to share that the collaboration between GRUPOSP, HHF, and Bak Gordon, alongside Afaconsult, Pauliceia Restauro, and Gabriella Ornaghi / Bianca Vasone Arquitetura da Paisagem, was awarded 4th place in the international competition for the new SESC Galeria in the iconic Mappin building in downtown São Paulo. The future SESC Galeria will transform the iconic Edifício João Brícola into an accessible, flexible, and inclusive space for art, culture, education, and community life – embedded in the fabric of São Paulo’s city center.

By opening its doors to the public, our project WILDENSTEINERHOF will be part of Open House Basel on the weekend of May 24/25, 2025. The carefully restored townhouse in the heart of Basel, originally built in the 17th century, has been transformed into a contemporary workspace and school environment in close collaboration with the Basel Heritage Preservation Office, respecting its historical character while enabling new forms of learning and working. AA VISITING SCHOOL BASEL

FIRST PRIZE TO TRANSFORM THE HAGENBÜNDTEN TRAINING CAMPUS
Our winning design envisions a low-impact architectural ensemble that carefully integrates the partial reuse of existing structures of the relocated Baloise training campus in Arlesheim (Basel agglomeration) with newly built elements. The result is a composition of three distinct buildings set within a shared outdoor space, evoking the atmosphere of a forest clearing. This configuration enables a variety of residential typologies, each with private outdoor areas that seamlessly connect to the surrounding natural landscape. The planning phase is underway, and we look forward to the next stages of this transformative project.

HOUSE PI GROWS
The private townhouse in the Basel Bachletten area and in close proximity to Schützenmatt park is growing and soon to be finished. Its distinctive architectural design offers a playful yet consequent spatial configuration between the street to the front and the green to the back. Two trees configure the floor plan layout as one at the entrance of the building guards the front door and facade to Mariasteinstrasse, and the other one is encircled by the ground floor living room and dining/kitchen area at the garden side.

L'ORÉE DE CRISSIER, the new urban neighbourhood near Lausanne, benefits from a prime location, surrounded by nature, transport links, and services. The project combines a structured urban plan with architectural diversity and flexible design processes. Developed by Bachelard Wagner Architekten, HHF, and Tatiana Bilbao Estudio, it provides autonomy to each team. The master plan prevents buildings by the same architect from being adjacent. UETIKON LIBRARY ON THE WAY
The three-story building in Uetikon am See showcases sustainable and adaptable architecture in the town center. It houses a public library, a medical center with labs, and apartments. Built with solid timber slabs and wooden construction, it meets Minergie and Swiss Sustainable Building Standard (SNBS) criteria, allowing future flexibility. The structure features fir and spruce wood resting on a concrete foundation. Surrounding balconies act as green filters, providing outdoor space and natural shading. Reusing the existing basement volume and reducing excavation maximizes permeable surfaces, allowing for additional trees along the green facade to enhance shading. As part of the Upper Rhine Architecture Days 2024, we had the opportunity to show our Strasbourg STARLETTE project to the public on Sunday, October 13, 2024. As a significant architectural initiative, it marks a pivotal milestone in the transformation of the Deux-Rives area along the Rhine and the harbor, halfway between France and Germany. The project is poised to become a landmark in the ongoing transformation of the most eastern French metropole, ensuring sustainable and forward-looking development of a new district by setting a benchmark for future urban developments to enhance civic life.

Fail better.”, the Kunstmuseum Olten is dedicating an exhibition to the preliminary (hand-) drawings of architects, a subject that is equally important for both architecture and the visual arts. Works from four archives – Drawing Matter (UK), EPFL Lausanne, ETH Zurich, and USI Mendrisio – and fifty well-known Swiss offices, including HHF, are going to be displayed from June 1 – August 25, 2024. The vernissage takes place on Friday, May 31, 2024, at 18:30.

BIS – “FROM BUILDING TO CAMPUS”
As part of the 11 high-quality designs that were contributed to the invited international architecture competition, the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) launched to develop its Basel headquarters site. Our proposal was shown in the public exhibition “From Building to Campus”, January 25 – 30, 2024. Congratulations to ELEMENTAL and Nissan Wentzlaff Studio for their winning entry, and thanks to BIS (together with Berger + Co.) for the fantastic setup and exhibition design to present all submissions above Basel on the 18th floor of the BIS tower.

JARDIN MÉTROPOLE INAUGURATED
On Friday, January 19, 2024, our JARDIN MÉTROPOLE 30-meter-high mixed-use tower in the Mett district of Biel/Bienne was inaugurated. With its striking shape, consisting of three cubes of different sizes – placed in alternating orientations on a circular public ground floor – the building acts as a significant landmark and at the same time stands in tradition to the Bieler Volkshaus from 1932 with its famous “Rotonde”. Together with the adjoining public green space, the prominently positioned high-rise building on Bärenplatz also makes an important contribution to enhancing the neighborhood.

Mid of mid-August, we welcomed and celebrated our newly opened office extension. Two street numbers south of the existing main space, a similar but overall very different backyard opens up not only to the very depth of the plot but also, and interestingly, exciting to the sky above. We are delighted to use this additional historic and cabrio-like spatial configuration for all kinds of work-related gatherings and get-togethers among our guests and colleagues.

Live at Mextrópoli
On Sep 21, 2022, HHF co-founders Simon Hartmann and Simon Frommenwiler were invited for a lecture in Mexico City at Mextrópoli, the XII Iberoamerican Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism. Under the title of Architectural Topographies, the duo presented HHF strategies and methodologies concerning projects in Mexico, France, China, and Switzerland to a live audience of circa 2,000 people.

JARDIN MÉTROPOLE, a competition-winning design by HHF for a 30-meter-high apartment tower in the Biel community of Mett, has now reached its final height. The construction – after being approved by the inhabitants of Biel/Bienne in a public vote – began in June 2021, and is due to be finalised in June 2023.
